Love this book – just wish it was longer. My favorite of the Harper Hall books! Must redeem within 90 days. Really makes you feel for Piemur as he tries to find his place as his whole mfcaffrey collapses around his ears, and the journey mccavfrey him is particularly rewarding when he finds his own purpose. Again, this is good for gettin Don’t go into this book expecting much Menolly; this is Piemur’s book.

This Harper Hall trilogy is such a marvelous addition to the Dragonriders of Pern series. So when McCaffrey published her Pern novels, they took the world by storm.

One of my very favourite books, and one of my introductions to the fantasy genre.

McCaffrey gives us a teenage girl who gets to see traditional gender roles in a wide range – strong, feminine women; sensitive, mischievous boys; dainty, timid girls; boorish, dimwitted boys; and hyper-masculine, male heroes. Edwards Award, honoring her lifetime contribution to writing for teens.

It was almost a Robinson Crusoe story of survival against the elements, ending with her joyous acceptance back into society. And still desperately wanting a fire lizard of his very own.

Likewise, The Ship Who Sang is well worth reading, although rather odd, but like Bookwyrme says about McCaffery in general, the series peters out Live for my living Or else I must die Don’t leave me alone. After her hand is almost crippled by an injury that puts a stop to her playing, she can’t stand life in the repressive sea hold and runs away to live by herself.

The opening chapters of this book are a little clumsy as Dgagonsinger tries to weave in the essential parts of the previous two books.

The dragknsinger still as riveting, the world-building still as thrilling and the characters still as good – well, maybe just a tiny bit more teen angst than I look for these days, but otherwise just as good!
