Very funny take on the aftermath of Hamlet. It’s a decidedly modern spin, with political opportunist Fortinbras talking a lot about the need for a narrative that people can get behind. Why did she never work it out with Fortinbras and Hamlet?

Fortinbras is a play by American playwright Lee Blessing. It’s snarky and jokey, with some fun ideas and surprisingly poignant moments for its cast, which naturally includes the ghosts of everyone who died in Hamlet, now haunting the castle.
Horatio, sworn to the dead Hamlet to convey the truth of his actions, is immediately cast by Fortinbras into the role of an unwilling public relations person. Fortinbas you’re looking for a Hamlet parody with characters that are still true to the source material, just with a comedic spin, you won’t find it here.
Rockabye Hamlet The Lion King I really enjoyed reading this play and would really recommend this play if you have read or seen Hamlet, it gives a sense of closure while also making fun of the play at the same time.
It is broad humor and not to be taken too seriously. And I would also recommend having a group to blessng this play aloud with because it is so funny.

I felt the author was trying to go for laughs over ffortinbras and so a lot of interesting philosophical ideas were iced over with jokes about lusty maidens.

Lee Blessing’s characters are so funny, and he gives voice to numerous things that I wish someone Ophelia, especially had been able to say during the actual Hamlet play. Hamlet’s former servant, Osric Philip Tanzinibumbles the plan to concoct a story about a Polish spy who murdered the royals, and Hamlet’s pal Horatio Patrick Fabian constantly berates Fortinbras for his shortcomings in comparison to the beloved Hamlet.
Young Fortinbras, a modern man of action, enters during the last scene of Hamlet only to order the bodies of the blessibg family shuffled off while he devises the best possible media blitz to legitimize his ascension to the throne of Denmark.
Read the play and fortinbrae know what I mean that makes this comedy sell. But it’s not just the length of the play that made it easy to read, it’s also very engaging and it flows nice. Hardly a week goes by without an attempted parliamentary coup. Cheesy as it may be I found this “sequel” to Hamlet thoroughly entertaining.
In the afterworld, all of the characters reconvene, wiser now by their deaths and ready to make a new go of it in Elsinore.
