Tompkins is named after Tompkins. It is tomkpins good starting point which would allow people to then go deeper with more advanced texts. The theories are no longer cutting-edge, as they were in the s, but I don’t think this book will ever grow old. But the stories, with their old-fashioned charm, do most of the teaching and entertaining here. Without this book I would still be utterly lost trying to understand modern circa s theoretical physics. Shrinking the hero to an atomic scale so that he can experience quantum effects first hand may create an illusion of understanding, but the reade Mr Tompkins has a number of dreams in which he encounters advanced physics on a personal level.
The result is that relativistic and quantum effects become noticeable in daily life. I thought this book would help me understand more since it is supposedly written for children. I still have a really fond place in my heart for this well-written introduction to complex concepts.
And so on, I stumble with unanswered questions on every page. I recently shared this book with a teen volunteer who was introducing younger kids to Einstein’s theories in a class on cosmology.
