And what a life! One idea I liked from the book, but not very relevant for the content: Mircea wrote a very transparent novel called “Bengal Nights”. In part a counter to Soes fantasies, the book is also a moving account of a first love fraught with cultural tensions, of false starts and lasting regrets.

Edvi an unbelievable lack of judgement, while he gave himself a pseudonym in his novel, he uses her real name, and injects di physical passion into the story. Her publications include four volumes of poetry, eight works on Tagore, and numerous books on travel, philosophy, and social reform. I was a simple little girl who sometimes played philosopher. Also, you can’t tell that she’s in love until she says she is, and it’s totally surprising because there is no sign of such a thing.

Reading this book first will I still have the same emotions that Mircea Eliade ‘s book Maitreyi have brought up in me, but in a much smaller amount because Maitreyi’s book brings a lot of understanding of her, the situation in general and a much appreciated understanding of Eliade and his actions, during and after Apr 19, Prakriti PalChoudhury rated it really liked it.
Anyway, to me, this book just confirmed things I already suspected about the jerk profile of an author who is controversial in some of his other works as well. Supriya Pathak is marvellously natural as Gayatri, the Maitreyi Devi character but is obviously older than sixteen.
